"A place is not only the type of space it creates but also how it responds to the context within its location."
In this studio we were tasked with developing a master plan for a hypothetical new development near Blackeberg, Bromma, Sweden.
The brewery building makes use of Nordic functionalism, taking some cues from Eliel Saarinen and the larger arts and crafts movement. With a focus on a natural light interface, clerestories and tripartite arched windows were employed on the southern facade to maximize sunlight during the long winter months with relatively short daylight hours. While the ground floor plan features an expansive beer hall, the second floor provides flex office space for the business side of the brewery. The beer hall is connected to both the brewhouse and the cellar to fully immerse customers in the brewery process. The adjacent building is the restaurant. This provides a more refined dining experience while still connected in spirit to the beer hall.
Both buildings are arranged to absorb the topography of the hill. Serving both to front the lakefront park and create an intimate dining experience surrounded by nature.
